As people with cerebral palsy get older, their needs may change. These changes can impact daily activities, swallowing, mobility, strength, spasticity, pain, communication, or equipment needs.

Overview
Our interdisciplinary team of physical therapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs), and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide on-on-one care and work with you to create a unique treatment plan based on your needs. Additionally, we have a full-time social worker available to assist with counseling and accessing various resources throughout the community.
We specialize in:
• Wheelchair seating and mobility
• Assessment for bracing or splinting
• Augmentative and alternative communication
• Speech treatment
• Breathing assessment and training
• Dysphagia treatment
Your Visit Includes:
- A Comprehensive Evaluation: Our physical and/or occupational therapists will listen to what your goals are and look at how you move. They will check your strength, range of motion, spasticity, balance, and/or endurance.
- Speech Therapy: Our speech therapists will check your swallowing and/or communication abilities.
- An Activity and Routine Assessment: Our therapists will address your current activities and routine. We will work with you to identify any recent changes or problems.
- An Equipment Evaluation: We will also evaluate your equipment needs including bracing/splinting, wheelchair assessment, or communication devices.
- A Tailored Rehabilitation: Our therapists will give you with a personal activity program to do at home or in the community. Your care will be customized to fit your specific needs and goals.

Every WashU Medicine physical therapist holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, with many having board-specialist certifications in specific areas of practice.
