VitalStim therapy is offered as a part of our speech therapy services at the @4240 location. Stroke, traumatic brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Parkinson’s are just a few of the many causes of swallow dysfunction. If you or a loved one are experiencing difficulty swallowing, you may benefit from VitalStim therapy with a trained professional. VitalStim is Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation: electrodes are placed on the face or anterior neck in order to activate your swallowing muscles. One of our speech language pathologists will work diligently with you to improve your function and safety.
You will undergo an instrumental swallow evaluation (FEES is available @4240) to determine whether VitalStim therapy is appropriate.
Your physician will be consulted in order to provide a referral for VitalStim.
Your speech language pathologist will determine your individual needs, the best course of action, and the specific benefits to you.
You will receive one-on-one skilled speech therapy including VitalStim, oral/pharyngeal exercises, education, and support.
