Overview:

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) often results in pain with chewing, clicking when opening or closing your mouth, teeth grinding or headaches. These symptoms are associated with the TMJ joint and can be assessed and addressed with a skilled physical therapist. Our trained physical therapists will help you get to the root cause of your issue so you can get back to being pain-free.

Your Visit Includes:

Assessment: Our clinicians will complete a thorough movement assessment evaluation that is related to your specific dysfunction. Our physical therapists will address postural deficits and muscle retraining techniques to improve your overall cervical and jaw alignment.

Education: The clinician will review your findings from your assessment to better understand what is causing your pain.

Correction: We will provide activities specific to your limitations addressed to improve your overall movement quality.

Our Approach:

Our unique approach to movement analysis allows us to successfully treat complex impairments and issues previously resistant to treatment. Our therapists will prescribe an individualized therapeutic exercise program to address the factors contributing to your symptoms and optimize your movement. During each appointment, your clinician will work closely with you to implement the most effective treatment plan.

Every WashU Medicine physical therapist in our practice holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, and many have board-specialist certifications in specific areas of practice. Our clinicians are trusted experts in evaluating and treating movement impairments commonly associated with injuries.
