ALS is a neurodegenerative disorder that can cause a wide range of symptoms including progressive muscle weakness and difficulty speaking, swallowing, and breathing.
Overview
Our interdisciplinary team of physical therapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs), and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide on-on-one care and work with you to create a unique treatment plan based on your needs. Additionally, we have a full-time social worker available to assist with counseling and accessing various resources throughout the community.
Your Visit Includes:
- Symptom Management – We create individualized evidence-based exercise programs to manage symptoms such as muscle weakness, fatigue, and pain.
- Adaptive Equipment – We recommend appropriate adaptive equipment and assistive devices to maximize independence with daily activities, prevent falls, and improve comfort. Our therapists work closely with orthotists and assistive technology providers to identify the best bracing and wheelchair options for you.
- Caregiver Training – We help you and your caregivers navigate changes in roles and routines through skilled training and recommendations for home accessibility.
- Communication – We enhance your communication with training and assistive technologies.
- Swallowing – We provide strategies to make swallowing safer and easier. Your speech therapist may recommend diet modifications to prevent choking and ensure proper nutrition.
- Community – We help you connect with local and national organizations that provide additional supportive resources.
