Overview

Adults diagnosed as overweight or obese can struggle with exercise and movement because of joint pain or lack of energy. Our clinicians work closely with Christopher Eagon, MD, a Washington University bariatric surgeon, to prepare adults for gastric bypass or lapband surgery.  A physical therapy assessment is one of the many required steps before your surgery is approved and scheduled.

Your Visit

At your pre-operative visit, your strength, flexibility balance, functional mobility, and aerobic capacity will be evaluated to establish a baseline or your current level of physical fitness.

Your physical therapist will develop a customized exercise program for you to perform both before and after surgery. You will also receive post-operative instructions regarding precautions, rehabilitation, mobility, and exercise.

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes to your appointment.
