Hearts in Motion
Since 2010, groups of third-year students have traveled annually to Guatemala over winter break to provide care and medical treatment for children, families and communities in rural Zapata through an organization called Hearts in Motion.
Run for Research
Since 1997, students have organized the Run for Research, an annual 10K/5K/ 1- mile walk to benefit the Foundation for Physical Therapy, the only non-profit organization nationwide that funds and publicizes physical therapy research. Held each April in Tower Grove Park, the event is promoted as a chance to help advance the profession of physical therapy and improve care for those who require physical therapy services.
WUPT Day of Service
Washington University Program in Physical Therapy participates in PT Day of Service to support the St. Louis community. Each April, students, faculty and staff travel to different sites to provide assistance where needed.
The Program in Physical Therapy hosts WUPT Games Day each spring; the purpose of this annual event is to raise funds for the Global Women’s Health Initiative, an organization dedicated to engaging physical therapists and other healthcare providers interested in the care of women in under-served communities, both locally and globally (www.gwhi.org). The WUPT Games is a series of fun field day activities, and funds will go toward textbooks for PT students abroad.
